Making improvements to the Native Hedgerow was the main highlight of our community project.
Refining any and all kinds of soil is a main function when trying to grow anything in the ground. Improving soil, which in turn leads better crops, is always a main priority and concern at the Oregon State Organic Growers Club Farm. With this, a lot of what our group was asked to do while performing the service learning project was to improve the hedgerows appearance and quality by clearing and cutting out weeds, grass, and blackberry bushes from the base of the plants in the hedgerows with pairs of cutting sheers. This would soon allow the native hedgerows to fully be able to consume the nutrients in the soil that the plants may not have been able obtain if this was not done.
